this book felt very much like an actual supernatural episode on the way the plot was told and how the characters interacted.
also this author wrote mich better -less out of character- portrays of Sam and Dean and their behavior.
it still wasn’t perfect or exactly like the show portrays them as, but it was close enough that it felt like the characters instead as completely different ones -such as the books written by DiCandido for this book series!- so that was nice.
Dean was better written in this book and truer to the character of the show- still not actually well done but a lot better.
and i did like that this book did show the brothers relationship better than the first book did and that the way the brothers behaved with each other felt similar enough to the show that it was done pretty well.
the actual plot of this book was also similarly build to how to show does it on the way that something bad happens the boys try to figure it out and help and it builds from there until they manage to solve it.
the build up to the end was good and the solution overall well done as well done!
i don’t really understand why so far in the books there is a pretty heavy focus on John and what kind of person he was and how he raised the boys. but it’s a very different way not only how it’s shown in the Show itself but also in the individual books by the different authors there’s a big different in how John is portrayed.
i guess that’s mostly because the show doesn’t really show John a lot and if he is shown he’s not a very great character especially with how he treats the boys.
so there is a lot of freedom in how John can be talked about but i kind of wish that he would have been at least written in a similar tone through this book series since he apparently has to be a pretty constantly mentioned character for some reason.
but overall this was a good book.
it had the right amount of action, spooky and horrific moments to realistically show the Supernatural show tone and as i said sam and dean where pretty well written.
i would recommend this for fans of the show -over DiCandido’s books who really doesn’t write dean well at all!- and it can defiantly be read and seen as either a standalone book or a start of the series for anyone thar wants a more true to the show book.
are the better written and more in-character fanfics for free to read? sure!
but let’s be real, all fanfic writers dream of having the job the authors of this series have: actually being paid to write for the fandom they love!
