I completely forgot about Icebreaker and that this was in the same universe. It’s fun and a quick easy read that’ll keep your mind busy, but nothing memorable. It had its cute and funny moments with A decent spice scene but otherwise it was just filler and cringey dialogue. Neither main character were particularly interesting or likable which isn’t necessary for a story but in a romance novel? Yeah, it’s definitely a requirement.
As someone with daddy issues, I don’t mind seeing it in books but this was just so much! Two characters where their daddy issues was 90% of their personalities was so annoying. Also, I’m getting REALLY TIRED of seeing these books where the character is being legit abused (mentally/emotionally/physically) by their parent and everyone trying to get the MC to make amends with them. Like are you serious??? Normalize cutting off toxic family members and not feeling guilty for it! I know Russ’s dad has a disease but that doesn’t mean Russ should ever feel obligated to accept the amends let alone reconcile with his father.
And why are these books SO LONG. There’s too much filling not enough crust to hold it together. I will still probably listen/read to the third book, but it’s just to listen to while I work and need something I can half pay attention to without getting lost.
