The Flight Attendant
by Chris Bohjalian
Thank you for Netgalley, Chris Bohjalian, and the publisher for providing me with an advanced copy of the Flight Attendant.
Cassie is a flight attendant who wakes up one more in a foreign hotel room next to a dead man that she only met the previous night. Cassie has a tendency to drink too much, pick up strange men, and black out or pass out. When Cassie discovers the dead body, she can not remember everything the night before. The book proceeds to determine if Cassie killed this man. Or was it Melinda, the attractive woman who came to Alex's hotel the night before? . What reasons would there be to murder Alex, a very attractive and apparently rich, hedge fund manager? What will Cassie do to figure out what exactly happened that night?
I believe this book had an interesting storyline. However, I felt no connection to Cassie, the main character. Actually, for the majority of the book, I just felt annoyance with Cassie. Maybe that was the point. Cassie is not a good person and takes after her father in a lot of ways. Even her own sister, does not trust Cassie with her niece and nephew because of the drinking and inappropriate sexual behavior. I did not like the way the book flowed back and forth between the viewpoints of Cassie and "Miranda". For this story, I thought it was a little over-the-top. That being said, I did start to feel warmer about Cassie towards the end. The ending was a bit of a surprise. I did not actually see it coming.
I think fans of Chris Bohjalian will enjoy this book. I look forward to reading other books by this author.
