5 Rounds by Nikki Castle

So this was a new author for me, and I will probably read more by her in the future. The characters were really well written and had lots of depth. The bedroom scenes, and out of the bedroom even, were very steamy. When I categorized this as a sports romance that is because there was a lot of the actual sport within the story. Not only was Tristan an MMA fighter, but Remy was really into all of the fighting and similar types of fitness for herself. The whole enemies to lovers trope was done very well, it was hard to see how they would end up together, and while the physical attraction built up between the two, they didn’t just give in right away. I felt that was very realistic.

I’m not sure how many pages this book is, but it was really long. That did detract a bit for me. Also, believe it or not, but I might have felt there were a few too many of those steamy scenes. Now I don’t like when a story has one and then the rest are all fade to black either, but we got full long scenes all the way through the book. And at times I might have skimmed a bit towards the end, as I just wanted to know how the story was going to go at a certain point, and there might have been a few bits in those scenes that weren’t really my taste. There was also a point in the beginning when Remy was going on and on about how wonderful exercise was and how her great diet was so great. And as someone who is a bit out of shape these days that was a bit annoying for me because I tend to want to connect with the characters. But like I mentioned above, that is where the author was giving these characters the really great depth they had, so I was able to take it all in stride.

A very steamy, yet emotionally deep book. As I mentioned, I look forward to reading more by this author, hopefully Tristan’s roommate next time?
