Whisper Down the Lane by Clay McLeod Chapman

This was overhyped I think. It was okay. Kinda tried too hard at the end with a funhouse ride amount of "gotcha!"s. I'm not pleased with the tendency to make mental illness and horror one interchangeable storyline. Isn't it scary when reality is blurred through generational mental illness? Sure, but is it a fair subject of a horror novel? I'm not sure. Feels a little predatory. The mental illness wasn't the only storyline but it was presented as a gotcha. Like, oh you think this is scary? Well what about if someone is also CRAZY? Dun dun DUN! I don't know. Just didn't do it for me. I liked most of the character development, the plot was ok (inspired by real events) but I felt done before the endings came.
