Lifel1k3 is the first book in the young adult science fiction series, Lifelike, by author megastar Jay Kristoff. I loved Jay's Illuminae series, and I have been dying to read his Nevernight Chronicles (Which I really need to get a move on. Come on Michelle!) but when I saw he was releasing the Lifelike series, I knew I couldn't miss it. Lifel1k3 has such a cool concept...robot, robots and more robots. The concept of artificial intelligence has always fascinated me. So when you take a book set in a post apocalyptic future where robots and AI are a huge part of the world, I am all in.
Eve is our main character in Lifel1k3. Eve builds robots to fight. Things quickly get interesting in a robot fight that goes south really quickly. Eve is in danger of dying until she has some x-men like abilities that save her, and at the same time, put her in a very dangerous position. The world in Lifel1k3 is fierce and very violent and dangerous. All of that really adds to the atmospheric feel of this novel. There is absolutely no denying that Jay Kristoff is a masterful storyteller.
Once Eve's powers manifest themselves, she is off on a pretty scary run. Here she runs into a whole gang of characters, including her best friend, a robot dog (yes, yes yes!!) and an android boy, named Ezekiel. There are so many cool things that reveal themselves throughout the course of this story, and I really don't want to spoil anything for you guys because Jay's books are best when you go in knowing just a little, and you get to watch the whole thing unfold and grow before your eyes. That's exactly how I feel about his novels. They start out interesting and they continue to grow and evolve until the world and the characters completely consume you. I cannot get enough. I am so interested in this series. I have not read a ton of the books and series that Lifel1k3 is being compared to,(like mad max, blood red road and blade runner) so the whole idea felt unique to me. If you like high action post apocalyptic books that are not afraid of violence, Lifel1k3 is going to be a great novel for you! I really enjoyed it and I definitely want more!
