Hurricane Summer by Asha Bromfield

I thought I would struggling reading this book because of the use of Patois, but thankfully, it wasn’t an issue. I found myself annoyed with Tilla over how she wasn’t using her voice only to discover it was the author’s way of setting up her to be a heroine in the end by standing up for herself with Diana, the aunties, Hessan, and her father. In the end though, I was disappointed because I felt Tilla never really voiced what happened to her, especially to her father, and I found that strange given the newfound voice the author gives her in the end. Because of this, the book didn’t reach a resolution to me and ultimately left me feeling a little robbed and disappointed.
