Where the Rhythm Takes You
by Sarah Dass
I liked this YA adaptation of my favorite book a lot. I thought Dass understood the plot of the original book very well and made some really smart and interesting choices in the adaptation. I loved the Tobagonian culture throughout, especially. I think my biggest issue comes from Reyna herself. I feel like Anne Eliot is a hard protagonist for a lot of people to get; she's older and has made mistakes, but where she's at in her life she's accepted a lot of that. What that usually translates to is people thinking she's sorry for herself, which is not how I see Anne. Reyna was very down on herself throughout most of the book, which fit her story but got hard to read at times. Still a good overall story, though!
