We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
4.0

I remember being so moved by this TEDTalk when I first saw it. It came at a time when I was really embracing the identity of a feminist, and so much of what she said made perfect sense to me. Reading it today in light of the recent controversy about Adichie talking about transwomen does have a slightly different perspective. Her talk was very short, but it's also very heteronormative. Everything she talks about is in discussion of men vs. women, and assumes all men are interested in women and vice versa, which isn't how the world works. Clearly, only so much can go into a 30 minute TEDTalk and she doesn't have to explore the intersectionality of sexuality in regards to feminism. But I reading this for the first time after listening to her talk so many years ago, I paid particular attention to the absence of LGBTQ+ people in her examples.
