Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas
4.0

Originally I was turned off by the premise of this "love story", the description sounded a bit too Jerry Springer for me. I wasn't sure why we needed a sleeping with daddy novel. Shouldn't those types of taboos remain in short erotic stories or armature porn?? However after reading Punk 57 and Tryst Six Venom, both of which will haunt you for weeks after reading; I came to the conclusion that Penelope Douglas knows what the fuck she's doing and I need to read every thing she has published and trust she won't disappoint.

This book was sooo good. If I was not such a prude and a bit uncomfortable with society's unwritten rule of not crushing on your boyfriend's dad, I probably would not have skipped over some of the earlier chapters. Now that I've finished and am pleased with this book, I will likely go back and read what I skipped so it can be filed in my spank bank.

Jordan is NOT a hoochie. She is not a damaged girl with daddy issues. She intelligent, strong, hardworking, and positive. I liked her very much. I also really liked her sister.

Cole was a bit of a hot mess, spoiled, and selfish, but his growth is so admirable and familiar.

I really enjoyed and almost preferred reading from Pike's perspective. At no point did I ever feel like he was a dirty old man or that he didn't love his son.

The epilogue is what pushed this from a 3 star to a 4 star book. I love that this story was so well written. It's not kinky or dirty or taboo. I encourage anyone who is on the fence about reading this to do so. It's better than a Lifetime Movie.
