I was super excited for the release just to hate the book. The writing was more juvenile than I was expecting for an adult fantasy. I hated the insta love between Kai and Jadon. The plot was lacking and the pacing was so slow I kept losing interest. Then, when we did get a semblance of a plot, it would cut to Kai telling us what happened in between plot points. The premise is interesting but it wasn’t executed well at all. A lot of the book just felt corny and underwhelming.
