Our Souls at Night
by Kent Haruf
Addie and Louis are neighbours that haven't really had much to do with each other but now there are both in their 70's, widowed and living alone. One day Addie reaches out to Louis to ask if he will occasionally share her bed, just to keep her company and so it happens that they spend their evenings together. This story is not so simple though as people gossip, Addie's grandson comes to say and her son is firmly against them being together.
This is a real tale of loneliness that tugs at the heart strings, a character study and a reminder of how companionship can alter a life but for me it just didn't live up to the hype.
