A tale not about a conceited, dreadful man (as I thought) but an unassuming woman who posses a fire within her soul that ignites a feminist revolution within it's readers.
I went into my reading of this expecting to find a bland story about a miserable girl only brought to life through the obsessive attentions of an almost bigamist.
However Jane Eyre has surprised me thus far. The knowledge she has of her own mind, her own soul, endear her to me. To truly understand you must cast your mind to the time at which this book was written. Of course the Brontë sisters are now renowned for their genius as writers, at the time for female authors to flourish in such a way was unprecedented.
I will tell you the point which solidified the love I have for this story.
After Jane discovers the truth about Bertha Mason she does not wallow for long and she does not dither about her circumstances and what she needs to do. She is resolute in her choice to leave Thornfield and Rochester (despite his whiny protests and weak excuses).

Jane Eyre provided a message that all women of that needed to hear and it's loud echoes still comfort and impassion us today.

" I am a free human being, with an independent will; which I now exert to leave you. "
