Inventing Latinos: A New Story of American Racism
by Laura E. Gómez
I will contemplate if this is 4 or 5 stars but I guess I lean 5 stars. It’s so so informative. I learned a ton. The Census configuration was especially interesting.
It’s written in a VERY dense, not accessible way. Lots of confusing sentence structures (semi colons, em dashes, and commas all in one long twisty sentence). I guess that’s my main critique, hence why I’m still going 5 stars. But truly I had to read some sentences out loud 3 or 4 times to understand them.
Much more oriented around legal cases than I anticipated, which also contributed to the dense nature.
Overall v good and v interesting, I def recommend. Just have your phone or dictionary handy, I had to look up a lot of words.
