As with most thriller books, I sped through this because I simply had to know what happened. That is pretty usual for me when it comes to thrillers, however, I found that this book had several interesting features that most thrillers don’t have. First, I had an interesting commentary on the treatment of poor people versus rich people. I guess you could say, that for a thriller, it made an excellent commentary on classism. I found that the book kept me curious and have me turning the pages, which is a good quality for thriller to have. One small annoyance for me was how the main character referred to “Satanists” as the church of Satan is honestly peaceful and satanists are villified enough- despite the fact that you’re statistically more likely to be killed by a Christian zealot than a Satanist. However, the main character wasn’t really using the word properly and by the end of the book it is pretty obvious that the author is making a comment about wealth and not a comment about Satanism. Therefore, I can overlook that issue. I liked the fact that the main character struggled with money so much, because it honestly made her a lot more relatable for me, as I’m sure it will do for many other people. This book was very enjoyable and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an interesting thriller that has a few unique elements. The only reason I’m giving it three stars instead of four or five, is that I found it difficult for me to suspend my disbelief for quite a few of the things that happened. In addition, thrillers simply aren’t my favorite genre so that could be part of my rating as well. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience.
