I liked the idea of this book. A stream of consciousness writing style can be very interesting and pull the reader into the narrator's world, but this book failed to do that. I felt it was an incomplete work, something that needed to go through more stages of editing. It seemed as though there were a few different story lines going on and that Matalone wanted to write about all of them but somehow only just dabbled in them. I love her poetic writing style, I underlined so many great quotes that really make the reader think but it's not enough to make me want to recommend this book to anyone. This book could have been executed better. I guess I should have rated it a 2/5 but being her first book, I'll let it slide. I hope that her next is more thought out.
