Even Though I Knew the End
by C.L. Polk
I love the setup of this one. Noir detective woman needs to catch a magical serial killer? Yes yes yes!
But then the story pivoted to be more about the mythology than the mystery, which I didn't love.
And the ending... I do not like it. I feel like it represents a contradiction of the themes I thought the book was building to. It's inconsistent with the worldbuilding. I feel like it's a very stupid moment which showcases that our protagonist has learned nothing, and doesn't respect her partner. It cheapens the melancholic tone that the rest of the book has so well built.
