A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab

I don’t even know where to begin here. This series was so goddamn good. Why did it take me so long to finally pick this up? I’m so so glad I did, wow. There was so much that I loved about this series, and this book especially, that I don’t really know where to start

First of all, the characters. Incredible. I loved every single one of them. They’re the best part of this series for me. They all had some pretty good development, especially in the first half of A Conjuring of Light. I love where Lila’s character went, and seeing her slowly (very slowly) start to trust people while still staying true to who she is. I loved seeing Kell and Rhy’s relationship grow stronger even when there was distance between them. Holland, just everything to do with Holland. Alucard, oh man don’t even get me started on Alucard. I especially loved the dynamic between four of them throughout this book, it was a lot of fun and got me right in the feels. I even loved the side characters, like Lenos and Hastra and Tieren. It was cool to learn more about the other kingdoms as well through the magicians that were still there from the Essen Tasch in the last book. I genuinely don’t think there was a single character I didn’t like. One thing I wish had gotten more development though, was Kell with the king and queen. That was a very complicated relationship, and feel like it didn’t get as much resolution as I would have liked.
SpoilerI’m not saying I would have wanted everything to have been wrapped in a nice neat now before they died, but I would have liked to have seen more of what Kell was feeling after heir death. He knew they loved him, and he loved them, but it was different from their relationship with Rhy, and I wish that had been explored just a little bit more after their death.
Also Osaron was a fucking cool ass villain, DAMN

The plot of this one was really fun, I’m obsessed with books set at sea so I was tickled pink when they got on that boat omg. When we first started learning more about Osaron and his power, I was so nervous about how this was going to end ngl. I couldn’t see how I was going to get out of this book without my heart being shattered, and shattered it was but I really like what Schwab did with it! Everything hurt and that’s exactly what I love
