The Promised Neverland, Vol. 1 by Kaiu Shirai, Posuka Demizu
4.0

I just watched Made In Abyss and really enjoyed it. The Promised Neverland gives the same vibe. Kids in a anime being in danger is nothing new, but the sharp turn from happy and go lucky to darkness is jarring but both Made in Abyss and Promised Neverland feel earned.

So a bunch of kids at a orphanage are trying to enjoy their young childhood lives. One day Conny, one of the kids gets chosen to be adopted. YAY! Except when two of her fellow friends follow her out to say goodbye and find that kids being adopted...aren't. But think of this as a very terrible faith that is darker than you'd expect from taking a glance at the cover.

It's enjoyable to see change in a series like this as it keeps its hopeful feel up even as the situations get more dire. I also love that it's basically a thriller. With super smart kids trying to find a way out of a dangerous situation. In doing so the series never talks down to you but lets you come along on this escape adventure filled with deadly results if anyone fails. The slower pace at points might make you deter from enjoying this series but I say stick with it, I know I will.

This thriller might just be the next Death Note. A easy 4 out of 5.
