My Name Is Lucy Barton
by Elizabeth Strout
This is the story of Lucy, her life, how she grew up in poverty, he desires to learn, her capacity for love and so much more. Lucy is in hospital and her mother comes to visit for five days, we learn about them through their conversations and Lucy's memories.
I didn't know much about this book going in and I really enjoyed it, there were so many quotes that really moved me and I wanted to share with friends. To me it felt like this story was about coming to terms with who you are and acceptance.
It is not a fast page turner, its a well throughout, character driven collection of thoughts and memories that creates just the right amount of intrigue and tension.
