Time Is a Mother
by Ocean Vuong
emotional
sad
slow-paced
i loved this authors novel and wanted to give his poetry a try. especially since so many people that also enjoyed his novel kept talking about how because he is a poet they expected beautiful writing.
poetry for me is always something difficult- i think for everyone it is.
just like anything else we experience it’s different for everyone and very often depending on the right timing.
for me this book and collection of poems in it… didn’t really work.
the poems felt more like random words or something thoughts put together.
sure some of them actually said something but a lot of them to me felt more like someone just putting down words not caring if what is being put together actually says anything.
that could be because i prefer poems that have a bit of a rhythm to them and most of the ones in this book do not.
or i just don’t understand poetry well enough to get the deeper meaning of it all.
maybe i should have listend to this -is there even an audiobook? i didn’t check that- because sometimes poetry does work a lot better being read aloud or to someone.
but as it is?
sorry this really wasn’t for me.
and if i would rate it for pure enjoyment kf my own personal experience it would be a 1-2 star.
BUT i know that poetry is not something i understand or enjoy easily and that especially this type of poetry isn’t my favorite.
it would be unfair to rate any least favorite genre on not being the very narrow fitted thing i enjoy.
and i am sure there are a lot of people that do enjoy this.
also is don’t hate this. i just didn’t take any the big away from it.
i read it. but that’s it.
so i would recommend this for people that are not poetry beginners or have a way to discuss what’s going on in some way to maybe get an actual understanding of the is collection.
