Magic Trials is the first book in the half blood academy series by author Meg Xuemei X. The Half blood academy series is a new adult reverse harem mythology fantasy series, and it is one of my favorite in this genre.

In Magic Trials, we meet Marigold, who believed that she did not have any powers her whole life. But when the demigod of war meets her in the woods, he forcibly whisks her away to the half blood academy, or half death academy because only 1/2 of the recruits survive the first year. Here we meet 3 of the 4 demigods (Demigod of the Sea, Sky and War) and Mari's other classmates. I was immediately drawn into this story. I am a sucker for anything mythology based, and from the very first sorting ceremony at the school, I knew this series was going to be full of fun secrets and an awesome romance.

The students at half-blood academy are sorted into the house that hails from their god- whomever they are a distant descendant of. That or they are killed right off the bat for not having enough magic in their blood. Mari was not sorted into any house, but she also was not killed. At that is only the start of her mystery. All of the demigods are strangely drawn to Mari.

I really love all of the guys, even Paxton. I think I might be the only Paxton fan right from book 1. I will update you more on the guys after I read book 2, but I love how different they each are. They are an awesome embodiment of their respective Gods.

Bottom line: if you are a fan of mythology, magic school settings or reverse harem you need to read the Half-blood academy series. Heck, even if you are a fan of one of those three things, you need to read the Half-Blood Academy Series. It is one of my favorites!
