Kick by Ali Dean
4.0

Kick is book two in the Sparks Sister Duet. The Line Below is book one and follows, Shay Sparks. Kick is all about Shay’s twin sister Lydia Sparks, better known as Kick.

Kick, like her sister, is also a swimmer. One night while out she has a run in with musician Jack Kingston, after a show his band plays on campus. After one night with Jack, everything with Kick’s life changes. She begins to questions herself, question her path in life but then he leaves.

Kick is on a downward spiral in her life. She is losing herself in one-night stands, parties and alcohol. Though she is on that downward spiral, losing herself is the only way she can feel any sort of control. Her life is about to change forever, she meets rocker Jack Kingston after his band plays on campus.

Jack Kingston is an aspiring musician who is definitely one to watch on the music scene. He isn’t looking for what Kick is offering when they meet. He isn’t looking for a one-night stand with some girl, he is looking for a relationship. He knows there is something different about Kick so he doesn’t fall for her offer.

Jack ends up leaving and Kick falls even more down her dark hole, until she officially hits rock bottom. She realizes that there is more to life than just partying, hooking up with strangers, and drinking. She puts all her focus and energy into swimming. She works on herself and building up her confidence. She is truly a new person. Kick and Jack run into each other 8 months later and the chemistry between the two hasn’t weakened and may be stronger than ever.

I loved Kick and Jack’s story. The chemistry between the two was undeniable. I love how much they both need each other and don’t realize it. Though not even goes on deep of a spiral as kick did, her issues with self-esteem and not really knowing what you want to do in your life are something that a majority of people can relate to. I look forward to reading more stories from Ali Dean!
