This was a 3.5 star read. It was long and it felt long. The modern-day heroine, Clare, was totally pathetic and I didn't think much of her at all. She seemed incapable of even making a phone call for a lot of the book. I know she was bullied, but she had so much time when she was on her own and could have rung people or left the house, and she did nothing.

The historical story was definitely the better bit. I see some people have just read the historical story and skipped the modern day bits, and you could definitely do that. However, I'm sure there must be a better book out there about Isobel if you wanted to read about her.
