Behind Closed Doors by Katherine X., Sue Smethurst
3.0

My first reread of 2019, this is a heartbreaking account of one woman’s hell at the hands of her abusive father. A must read for lovers of true crime and the psychological fallout for victims of ongoing and unrelenting mental, sexual and physical abuse. The writing leaves a lot of room for improvement, but I feel it adds to the dimension of the story. This is not the story of a well educated middle class woman. This is the story of a woman from a low socio-economic family, who was in and out of foster care for much of her childhood. The writing speaks to this. It could benefit from a good edit, but at the risk of losing her voice.
