Bloodlust by Devin Thorpe
5.0

"Bloodlust" by Devin Thorpe, book 1 of a trilogy series, is narrated from Syrus's perspective, with the narrative alternating between "A DREAM" - representing his dreams, which usually flash back to the past, and "A NIGHTMARE" - his actual reality when he is awake. In the initial chapters, you begin to grasp the situation Syrus is in, and it is not good. As the story progresses, the world-building unfolds, allowing you to understand the various players involved. We then figure out Syrus is indeed a half-vampire/werewolf hybrid in the middle of a war between both species, and his fate may have been prewritten. The switch between dream and nightmare hypes you up and winds you down as you take on a journey with Syrus as he navigates this war on the outside and within himself. The book is not a slow-burn; the author builds imagery and sensory-detailed descriptions that immerse you with the MMC and his surroundings. As someone who doesn't switch between genres often, I really enjoyed this book, and we all know I love a book that has a well-executed twist. Book 2 could not come quick enough; I would 100% recommend it.
