horrorbutch 's review for:
Schizophrene
by Bhanu Kapil
This book explores the connection between mental illness, racism, historic trauma, being a minority group through a really interesting collection of damaged and sometimes intentionally erased journal entries that form new and intriguing poetry.
The voice of this collection really struck me and I adored the beautiful prose. I also enjoy experimental poetry and found myself really liking this one. Having read other stories that follow immigrant experiences with schizophrenia (Tastes like War by Grace M. Cho) I also found this a really interesting addition to this field.
Definitely a book you need to read slowly and let settle, instead of racing through it trying to make sense of the narrative as it works a lot better as an experience.
