This book is different from other YA fantasy books I've read before in that it has a healthy dose of reality mixed in with the magic. Nolan experiences consequences from dealing with magic, and so does Amara's world. But it's not just magical backlash, it's also physical and mental and I love that. I was going to give this book 4 stars, but the last chapter raised it to 5. This book I would recommend to everyone!
