This is an absolutely fabulous middle grade book full of magic and adventure - and even themes of conservation! We follow Solimar, a young girl who wants to see the annual butterfly migration but instead winds up with temporary clairvoyance. I loved how the butterflies are worked into the story throughout and how Solimar's journey truly embodies the metamorphosis of one. The cast of characters is lovely from the spunky Zarita to the loyal Lazaro, and the lush setting is just magical. Pam Muñoz Ryan takes us on an epic quest through Latin America that's both cultural and educational. What else could you want?
