The Anti-Hero
by Sara Cate
WOW. Okay, so first off, Sara Cate is one of those must buy and must read authors, so this was a no brainer. THEN, you throw in the themes of this book, such as religious trauma, good guy gone bad, good guy falling in love with someone he isn't supposed to, upending church, etc... this book had everything. I'm also someone who grew up in the church and felt very much like Adam did - like I was sinning for wanting the things I wanted, that I was a bad person, that I had to obey certain rules and people. It really resonated and hit close to home for me, because Adam's struggle was pretty much the exact reason I turned away from religion as well. The book was just so well done and handled such heavy topics in a way that felt right, particularly consent and the difference between abuse and consent, as well as homophobia and the impacts of religion. I love that Adam and Sage were so different but found the love they were both so deserving of, and never tried to change each other!
