Friendship Pact
by Jill Shalvis
I loved this! Riggs and Tae are both well-rounded characters that communicated openly with one another about their feelings throughout the whole book. There’s really not much I appreciate more in a romance novel than open and honest communication. I really enjoyed the setting. While this is a book in the Sunrise Cove series, it was entirely a standalone that took part in a whole new corner of the town. There were no connections that I noticed, so no need to read the prior book at all.
Tae’s relationship with her mom was also fascinating to read and watch unfold. This might be the first novel I’ve read that showed a teenage mom after her child had grown up. The love they had for each other even through the trials you’d expect in such a situation was so heartwarming.
The side characters were absolutely loveable. It also seems there might always be a dog in the picture in a Jill Shalvis novel (2 of 2, so far), and Grub was so adorable.
I liked this one a decent amount more than the prior in this companion series. The writing style was the same in both. It was just this story and these characters that resonated with me more.
