The first book had some promise. This one just went all downhill. I cannot believe how much our main characters get sidetracked with thinking about abs and hair and just anything except for the actual war/danger happening. The bad guys all feel like ideas for characters as they dramatically do something but then have no personality. Also, everyone's powers got way stranger, the twists came out of nowhere but somehow still weren't surprising, and I just cannot get over the fact that every character has had this "tragic back story" to make them redeemed for no reason. Let someone be a bad guy or a good guy. Not every guy needs to have been abused to have a character. 

Could have maybe given it a 3 star as I enjoyed it relatively as I went along. But the last bit of this story just didn't make me interested in continuing and I didn't like the characters' choices in wrapping up this part of the story. Might read the next book one day, if it is available at the library and I have nothing better to listen to... but I kinda doubt that day will ever come. Would be open to reading other works of Mafi's if any of them are less teen heartthrob-focused.
