A Court of Thorns and Roses
by Sarah J. Maas
Reread: 2nd read - 2 stars
So I don’t love this book as much as I did. I mean yeah I see why people like it and I understand, but I just don’t like it as much as I used to. Even though it’s only been a year since I’ve read this book, I feel like I’ve grown with my reading taste, as a person, and read more fantasy to judge with book for real, and in all honesty I just don’t love this book as much.
Everything felt very flat, and then the ending + middle and end are the dumbest most boring things I’ve ever read. That doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy some parts of the book, but the one thing that was stopping me from like the characters was the main bitch. I can honestly say I hate Fayre.
She pulls the “Oh no poor me” card every 3 seconds and I’m tired of her shit. Plus Tamlin and Lucian have absolutely nothing going for them, other than their faeries with big dicks (which I mean good sex right? So maybe it’s not that bad?) Their all drier than someone who just got sunburned.
Again, I didn’t hate it I just don’t like this book as much as I used to. I like what Sarah J Maas was trying to do (because I love beauty and the beast) but I just don’t like her execution towards this story. I’ll see what I think of the 2nd book since everyone says it’s the most amazing thing in the world, but yeah that’s about it.

I honestly don’t understand why I loved this book so much.
I’ve always been a Disney fan, so when I learned that this book was in fact a Beauty and the Beast retelling, I was pretty excited. I tried out ‘Throne of Glass’ at one point and didn’t enjoy the book at at all so I was kinda weary, but nonetheless I picked it up from my library.
I don’t know why I didn’t sooner. I loved this book. Loved it. I loved the worlds, I loved the characters, I loved the romance, I loved the premise, I loved everything about it besides one thing, which I’ll get into later.
I liked the faerie (I think I spelled that right?) worlds and the humans worlds. When you separate them you can just see how much different they are. I also liked the faerie politics, and I enjoyed the humans social classes. Seeing Feyre and her family go from rich to poor, and how her family wasn’t the least bit grateful for her was something interesting and enjoyable for me to read.
I really enjoyed Feyre’s character. I really liked how she didn’t hold her tongue, and she was definitely a heroic female lead. Many will probably disagree, but hey we all have our own opinions. It was enjoyable to read she had painting as her hobby instead of books like Belle from ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ I was almost surprised when she told us that she couldn’t read or write.
I especially liked Tamlin and Lucien. Tamlin was just a very sweet and caring guy under his thick skin (much like beauty and the beast) and Lucien had a sense of humor I laughed at every time he cracked a joke.
The romance was interesting and indulging. Ok yes their romance was kinda cheesy, but I found myself shipping them and wanting them to end up together. I was quite happy and content when they did.
But I gave the book 4 stars. Why? Because I thought the ending was rushed. *Spoilers* After Feyre road back to the manor, found Alise, and she began her journey to the mountains, I found myself thinking it was a bit rushed. The ending could have been much better and slower, describing more says leading up to the trials each month I think I would have given the book 5 stars.
I also found that their are 2 sequels which I found a little bit dumb. In all honesty I think ACOTAR could have been a stand alone. The ending for me was good enough for me, although I had a few questions but they weren’t huge. So in all honesty I’m probably not picking up books 2 and 3 as well as the novella I heard about. I just felt completely content with them heading back to the manor and imaging them living out the rest of their life in peace.
Nonetheless though, I loved this book and was hooked from page 1, and I recommend to anyone looking for a good, kinda cute, and kinda cheesy YA, Fantasy, Romance.
