The Wedding Date
by Jasmine Guillory
The film The Wedding Date (2004) has a special place in my heart, so it truly was the title alone that had me itching to see what this book would be about, how the romance would play out, and if there would be any similarities to [16-year-old SPOILER] Debra Messing & Dermot Mulroney’s whirlwind love story. Readers, Guillory is great, and she made sure this book had a little bit of everything. It was difficult to NOT immediately order the rest of the series the moment I finished it. Looking forward to more!
Alexa and Drew have a meet-cute in a hotel elevator when they get stuck in it together. Alexa offers purse snacks and Drew is quite charmed. Before he can lose his nerve he asks her, a perfect stranger just minutes before, to be his date for a the wedding he’s in town for that weekend. He would really appreciate the company of a pseudo-girlfriend to show off in front of the crowd who will be there to witness the marriage of his former girlfriend to one of his best friends. Alexa, ever the professional, takes him up on his offer and wonders if their chemistry means that he might be just a fling she has been waiting for. What neither of them know going into that weekend is how hard it will be to say goodbye, and not just because of how good a time they have in bed together, but because of the potential they have to be so much more. Though the miscommunication trope is in use here in full force, throwing a wrench into their blossoming relationship, I still swooned often and flew through to the end. Would love to see them revisited throughout the series.
