The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
5.0

This book was so beautiful. Following the story of Achilles through the eyes of Patroclus. An expansion and, I suppose update, on Homers Iliad. Exploring the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus which Plato implied was far more than platonic. They’re love portrayed was strong and easy, I loved the balance of Achilles between being a strong, brutal fighter and a soft, passionate, vulnerable lover.

I love mythology and I feel more should be written like this. It was captivating and accurate to other tellings. Aside from incredible writing I was impressed with the time Madeline put into writing and perfecting (over ten years, after five she scrapped and wrote again from scratch) to make sure she captures Achilles voice.

This was a long book. I listened to the audio so that helped with the length and following along. And A LOT of the names sound similar which could be confusing if you’re not paying attention.
