bahareads 's review for:
Frankenstein
by Mary Shelley
Note: I had to read for school
"'Remember that I am thy creature; I ought to be thy Adam, but I am rather the fallen angel, whom thou drivest from joy for no misdeed.'"
Why is the story of Frankenstein cheapened in modern day media? How they twisted it from this to what is now portrayed is saddening. This story was so raw and horrifically entertaining. Shelley as an author is fantastic. I was astonished at how well put together the story was; there were stories within each other, they were well nested and flowed. The writing was gorgeous! There was never a moment where I was bored or wanted to put Frankenstein down. I loved how the birth of the 'daemon' was kind of vague; there was a mention of lightening but mostly of studying corpses and how the human body is composed.
Victor & the 'daemon' were complex characters for me; I neither loved nor hated them. I felt that Victor & the 'daemon' were more ambiguous. I did sympathize with both of them and felt each of their pain.
Victor fought so hard for his monster to come to life yet, when his monster cam alive came alive, he was disgusted and ashamed. HE FLED FROM THE ROOM for goodness sake. Victor had me miffed at some of the stupid things he did. I wanted to scream and throw my book across the room.
The 'daemon' was truly genius literary creation. His character was phenomenal; I loved learning about his early days. I wonder what would have happened to him if he had gotten a better reception from his 'little family'. The 'daemon's' vile acts of cruelty really test your feelings for him; you understand him but are abhorred at his actions.
All in all a great classic.
