Nevernight by Jay Kristoff is a high-fantasy novel with treacherous tones of murder. Mia is the daughter of an execute traitor who embarks on a quest to become a skilled assassin and get revenge on those who betrayed them
I honestly am still up in the air with this. I gave it 4 ⭐️ because the idea of the book was good. I liked the school for assassins, I liked the political intrigue, and the betrayal. I just had a really hard time with the writing. It was a little hard to follow at times and some of the phrasing and wording was making me scream.
Mia was a decent FMC. Young, determined, and stubborn. Her decisions some of the time made me want to yell at her. She was trying to do the right thing but then would turn around and do a lot of the wrong thing. I don’t know I didn’t really like her at all. I felt for her but I didn’t like her.
The ending was good. I enjoyed the twists. I will continue with the series but I am not sure it needs to be right away.
I would recommend this to those who enjoy high-fantasy with a unique writing style, betrayals, a strong female FMC, and deadly trials.
