The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
3.0

I really loved the premise of this book and I'm sad I can't rate it any higher because of the issues I had while reading.
First, I would have loved it so much more if the characters were all adults. In my head, I pictured them all as adults because it peeves me when teenagers walk around and act like they're almighty. It's bratty and annoying. Also the love triangle/reverse harem (there really wasn't any in this book, but I've seen it mentioned) is just nasty to read about when they're literal children. The romance aspect of the book felt very forced. I feel like Avery pining after one brother and then the other did not suit her personality and considering the whole

situation, it's shitty of her too. There wasn't any connection between her and the guys or any backstory why she would be all googoo at them. As readers, we have no idea what it is that's pulling her to them.
The second half of the book wasn't nearly as good as the first and the ending fell kind of flat for me. I wanted more answers. You cannot keep repeating that there's a secret and then not reveal it at the end of a 300+ book.
The focus on

was also really annoying.
Spoiler"This is what Emily would have wanted!!!" Please give me a break, she's dead, she's unlikable, who cares what she wants.

Keeping my fingers crossed the second one is better.
