For some reason I thought I wasn't going to like this, and I'm glad I was wrong and I did enjoy it. Freya Marske's writing style is appealing and I appreciated the world building here. None of Marske's subsequent romances have landed quite as well for me as the one in A Marvelous Light, though. The chemistry, affection, and admiration between the leads in that book has been hard to top. I didn't dislike the romance here. The premise and setup of the romance were fun and the two leads were a decent match for each other. I liked how the plot elements keeping them apart all got resolved. I just never got quite swept away with the book, it was only okay. Also, if it weren't for the level of description in the spicy scenes, I would have said this book feels more like a YA book than Marske's previous series.
Graphic: Panic attacks/disorders, Sexual content, Violence
Moderate: Cursing, Blood, Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Deadnaming, Stalking, Classism
