The Vanishing Half
by Brit Bennett
When I read Brit Bennett’s The Mothers a few years ago, I was truly awed by the writing. It was beautiful and so well done.

Sophomore books tend to make me wary. Is it going to live up to the expectation? And this one surpassed all of them. BB is a powerhouse and I will buy anything she writes.
•
I loved the story from beginning to end. There were all sorts of feelings. My heart aches for Desiree but then filled for her as her life changed back in Mallard. I felt a mixture of anger for Stella— but then realized I cannot fault her. I will never be treated as she could have been. I felt for Kennedy who for years could not be close to her mother due to the layer on non-truths. And I LOVED Jude. I loved her character’s love for life, for Reese and her family.

If you have been doubting whether to pick this up, this is me saying to just do it already! This is easily going to be in my top 3 books of the year. Also, HBO has won the rights to a mini-series!
