Crazy Beautiful by Lauren Baratz-Logsted

So, my first mistake was making a ton of assumptions prior to reading this. I found this book at a thrift shop. It was mysterious looking, the back cover set the path for a dark romance. A scarred man with hooks for arms.

My imagination went into overdrive. All the kinky shit this man can do with those hooks was thrilling. Would there blood play? Bdsm? Or cutting?

Then I looked at the ratings. Ok with an average rating of 3 stars which translates to Its Good, I felt like this was promising.

There is no other way to describe my horror 5 pages in when I find out my anticipated dark man is a 15 year old boy. WTF!! I should have researched this more, but in my defense it didn't pull up as young adult in my meager search. I feel like that would have been an important factiod.

I prayed for a time jump and for this story to take a dirty turn. But NO. Instead I spent 190 pages reading/breezing through irrelevant paragraphs, unnecessary details, no violence, and an anticlimactic ending.

I feel like so much MORE could have been done with these characters. Even as a YA. I don't need sex to enjoy a book and I sure didn't want two 15 year olds hooking up, but damn I would have appreciated a dash of violence. Just a bit of a bloody confrontation.

This isn't a bad story but it needs to be edited so hard and given an actual ending.

To be honest, l liked Lucius. He's nerdy, awkward, and sarcastic. But Aurora was fickle and I feel like she saw him as a fetish despite the lack of physical touch between them, which again was fine because they were only 15
