It's always a relief and often a joy when, upon re-reading a favourite children's book, you find that it's just as fantastic - if not better - than you remember it. The best children's books can be enjoyed by adults just as much, and this definitely falls into that category. There's something Roald Dahl about it, and I have to say that I learnt one or two words from Lemony Snicket's helpful definitions! The twist at the end remains one of the best plot turns I've ever seen and many times over the last 10 or so years, I've thought about the simplicity of it and quite how clever it is. I look forward to re-reading the rest of the series!
