The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell
2.0

Hey there. Do you like deep mystery novels with drama, character growth, and twists you never saw coming? Well then you should SKIP THIS BOOK! Aggressively dull, this book has so many unnecessary details and yet somehow never manages to say anything. The events could be summed up in a few pages and there are never any consequences for the actions of the three main characters. The ending is literally pointless and vaguely settings up for some sinister sequel that will inevitably flop.

Libby has no character growth and Henry and Lucy aren’t so much people as plot devices. Also, Henry is a queer man and also [SPOILERS] the murderer! Love having queer villains trope, that’s not damaging or awful at all! This book was so dull and bad I can’t even be angry at it because anger is too strong an emotion for anything I felt about this book. I see all these five star reviews and I am confused. Was everyone else’s copy better than mine??? Honestly just go read a Jane Harper novel for some good family mystery that actually does it right.
