Phantom
by Helen Power
4.5 Stars
Phantom by Helen Power was a wild ride from start to finish.
Roz is broke. Her art is failing. She was just fired from her job. She can never pay the rent on time and her roommate is done covering for her. So when a stranger proposes an odd offer, Roz is curious. He would give her one million dollars if she would sell her hand.
At first, Roz refuses, but things go from bad to worse when her ex comes back into the picture and she gives in. She wakes up without a hand and money in her bank account. Before she can even adapt to her situation, her missing limb begins to cause immense pain. After no help from the doctors, she's signed up for a trial of a new drug that is supposed to help with Phantom limb pain. And it does. But the drug has some weird side effects. One of them being that she can feel her missing hand doing things... including killing people.
The Phantom Strangler has her hand. Roz is determined to find out who the serial killer is before it's too late.
I really loved Power's writing. Just like The Haunting of Thornwood Place, I felt the story itself is unique.
While the main character is unlikeable and becomes an unreliable narrator, I still enjoyed reading from her perspective. Even if I was questioning most of the decisions she made.
If you're looking for an action-packed thriller with amazing plot twists, look no further. Phantom will be sure to haunt your thoughts.
