This book tells quite a story about a preacher that gets obsessed to find out the life story of one of the inmates in the prison where she works. You walk with her as she oversteps boundaries, starts to doubt herself and her faith and slowly unravels the horrible story of the inmate's life and the events that lead to two people getting beaten to death.

I almost always get too involved with the people in a story, which is a big reason why I mostly read fantasy and sci-fi stories: they aren't real and can't possibly be real. With realistic stories like this one, however, that's a lot harder to do. It is very easy to imagine something like what is discribed in this book to actually happen.

Which is why I can say that I really enjoyed the story but got quite sick to my stomach by the end of it, which could arguably be the thing a writer of thrillers is going for, but it's not really my idea of an enjoyable experience. I can recommend the story to everyone who enjoys a good thriller every now and then, even if you're like me and get too involved, but I don't think I'll be opening this book again.
