The Bride Test by Helen Hoang
DID NOT FINISH: 63%

I liked the Kiss Quotient  but just couldn’t finish this. I wish there was more Stella and Michael. 60% through the book and we’ve only heard Michael on the phone and Stella hasn’t even been named. They both could have helped Khai a lot as Stella is also new to relationships but Michael is so experienced and intuitive. Instead, it almost feels like Khai uses his autism to excuse abusive behavior. Instead of explaining to Esme why he reacts to some things the way he does, he brushes her off (or screams at her on the side of a busy highway) and never apologizes fully or even explains until he’s asked to. She’s in a new country with no connections, working hard to speak the language, and he leaves her at his house with no reliable mode of transportation when he’s clearly rich enough to buy her a new car? And then when she busies herself and tries to make him happy he scolds her without full explanation. I hope a proper apology was coming in the book, but I couldn’t wait for it. His mother or brother at least should have been much more involved in making sure she had resources and knew more about Khai.
I also really hated how the audiobook reader did men’s voices, they all  sounded like dudebros… maybe I would have finished in print form, but I doubt it.
All the reviews asking why Esme waited so long to tell him about her daughter… well why expect her to open up when he isn’t honest with her about his life or expectations or feelings?
