Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid
5.0

I think I first read this book when it first came out in 2013 and I remember being so blown away by Reid’s characters. This is a laugh-out-loud kind of book, a just-can’t-help-it-crazed-smile-on-the-subway kind of book. The characters are down to earth, understandable, funny; they make you root for them as you learn more and more about them.

Janie was a breath of fresh air. I felt myself in her — even though I’m not able to spout out really precise, random facts. She’s awkward but you never feel like that awkwardness is misplaced, or like it’s just a show the author is trying to sell you. And how do I even start with Quinn? I think I’ve been waiting for my own Quinn since this book came out. Sigh, it has not happened yet, but here’s to hoping!

I absolutely recommend this book. I’ve read it at least a dozen times. It’s one of those books you come back to when it’s a rainy day, an instant pick-me-up. Well done, Ms. Reid.
