We've seen Elle and Archer's sexy frenemies animosity throughout the first two books in the Heartbreaker Bay series, and we finally get to find why. Elle, once a young grifter trying to drag her and her sister out of a life of petty crime, was busted in a police raid led by new cop Archer. Elle thinks Archer lost his job after he chose to protect her instead of completing the raid, and after an awkward rejection of her advances to "repay" him, Elle went on with her life until getting her current job as a building manager.
