This modern day King Arthur retelling is what YA fantasy needs to see more of - not only is it an incredible story full of familiar and exciting lore, but it grapples with intersectional topics such as intergenerational trauma, grief, resilience, and the way all of that is experienced by descendents of enslaved people.
I wish I had YA books like this growing up. The way in which Tracy Deonna weaves Bree's reality as a young black woman growing up in the South with these fantastical elements such as The Round Table, knights fighting demons, and political magic systems is a huge reminder for why reading diverse books is so important. Legendborn is one of my top reads of the year, and I'm so excited to see books like this emerge in the fantasy genre!
I'm counting down the days until the next book comes out - the final chapters in this book had me screaming! The final twist and reveal at the end? OMG. I will not rest until Bloodmarked is in my hands!
