Shiver by Allie Reynolds
4.0

When I read this (November 2020) this reminded me of two other books I had read that year.
But I still really enjoyed this. Fast paced with enough action to keep me gripped the whole time.
In the notes in my phone I .add two guesses. One at 20% and one at 26%. Both I felt were probably the most predictable options. Thankfully I was wrong with both. I didn’t want to guess it so early on. However throughout I kept flipping between more than those two guesses.
Something I felt Allie did great was making me question everyone. I found I couldn’t trust anyone. Even after the reveal I felt the epilogue may change the story again. (I won’t say if it did or not). I also felt Allie gave hints and clues at the points where it caused me to flip my opinion again.
I enjoyed the two timelines. One being present day and the other being 10 years before. Giving you slices of the days leading up to the incident. Making me question people more. Especially since it was all told from Milla POV.
The suspense throughout was great. The atmosphere especially towards the end fitted perfectly. Definitely a dark cold setting. Even if a little unrealistic at times. But I could look past that and just enjoy the book.
I wasn’t expecting the added element of romance. I can’t say I minded it as it wasn’t push ahead of the actual mystery. It was just a side story that actually added another layer in my opinion.
This being a debut and getting the same rating as a more seasoned published author while having similar stories impressed me. Getting me more excited and hyped for a future release. I will definitely be keeping an eye out on a future book.
